Murungai kaai sambar ....easy and without TAMARIND.
Ingredients:. For pressure cook: a cup of toor dhal,7to8 country tomatoes,pinch of turmeric,a teaspoon of jeeragam, teaspoon of castor oil, required water to cook.
Murungai kaai__3, small onions _15, green chillies _2, sambar powder _2spoon, required salt, cooking oil.
Dry roast: spinach of fenugreek seeds (vendhayam), half teaspoon of jeeragam and coriander seeds (dhania). powder it .
Method:. Pressure cook the ingredients mentioned above for 5 whistles.open it and mash it with the masher.keep it aside.
Heat a spoon of cooking oil in a pan.Add small onions,green chillies.saute it for frw minutes.Then add chopped drumsticks.Add two spoons of sambar powder and required salt.saute it for 3 minutes.then add some water (2to3 glasses).close the pan with a lid and allow the drumsticks to cook in a medium flame.roughly it takes 15 minutes.check on and off by opening the lid to see the water level.After the drumsticks are cooked,add the mashed pressure cooked dhal in the pan.Allow to boil for 5 minutes.
Now,in a seasoning pan,add a spoon of oil.add mustard seeds,powdered dry roasted ingredients, asafoetida.pour it over the sambar.Give a mix.switch off the stove.pour a spoon of ghee and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.our sambar is ready to serve.
Instead of tamarind,I added more country tomatoes.try it.
